Rings
A finger ring is a circular band worn as a type of ornamental jewelry around a finger; it is the most common current meaning of the word ring. Other types of metal bands worn as ornaments called rings, such as arm rings and neck rings. Rings worn by both men and women and can be of any quality. Various ring shapes and styles exist. The following are but a few. Flat wedding bands are the simplest form of ring. A flat wedding band consists of a strip of metal bent around into a loop and joined where the ends meet. Half-round rings, also called D-shape rings, are flat wedding bands filed half-round on the outside. Sleeve rings are rings that consist of a thin inner ring or sleeve, with several other rings stacked onto it to form one solid ring. Either the rings soldered onto the sleeve or the ends of the sleeve can be upset to keep them all together. A little of both can also be done. Solitaire rings are rings with a single large stone as a centerpiece, usually a diamond. Eternity rings are rings with stones, usually diamonds, of the same cut and size, set in one row all around the ring. The stones are usually round or square, and the setting is usually either claws or a channel setting. When the stones do not continue around the entire ring, but stop halfway around the finger, it is a half-eternity ring. Trinity rings or Trilogy Rings are three rings worn at one time. Cluster rings are rings with a group of stones in a cluster setting, forming the focal point of the ring. The cluster setting usually consists of one large stone in the center surrounded with several smaller stones. Tension Rings are a type of ring in which a single gemstone is held in place by pressure rather than prongs, a bezel or other mounting. The metal setting is actually spring-loaded to exert pressure onto the gemstone. In the United States and Canada, ring sizes specified using a numerical scale, with quarter and half sizes. An increase of a full size is an increase of 0.032 inch in diameter, or roughly 1/10 inch in inside circumference. Generally, sizes in quarters and halves will not relate conventionally to anything on any known ruler. On one finger alone, a person may vary more than a whole ring size- depending on time of day, work performed, and other swelling-inducing activities/conditions. Therefore, in most cases quarter-sizes are meaningless unless one needs precise accuracy with a particular ring.
Comorbid Drug Abuse and Mental Illness
When two disorders or illnesses occur simultaneously in the same person, they are comorbid. Surveys show that drug abuse and other mental illnesses are often comorbid. Six out of ten people with a substance abuse disorder may also suffer from another form of mental illness. The high prevalence of comorbidities does not mean that one condition causes the other, even if one appears first. Drug abuse can cause a mental illness. Mental illness can lead to drug abuse. Common risk factors cause drug abuse and mental disorders.
Skin Conditions
Here is a glossy of terms for skin conditions. Atrophic means thin. Wrinkled and blistered skin is fluid-filled. Bumps and crust or scabs indicate the formation of dried blood, pus or other skin fluid over a break in the skin. A cyst is a deep lesion that contains pus. Excoriation is a hollowed-out or linear area covered by a crust. Hives or wheals entail a pink swelling of the skin. Lichenification describes skin that has thickened. A macule is a smaller version of a patch or a flat discolored spot. A nodule or papule is a solid, raised bump. Raised bumps describe bumps that stick out above the skin surface whereas a patch is flat, and discolored. A pustule refers to a pimple, which is an inflamed lesion that looks like a pink bump. Scales are dead skin cells that appear as flakes or dry skin. A scar is fibrous tissue that has formed after a skin injury.
Implants
There are many kinds of implants. The artificial pacemaker helps to regulate heart rhythms. Lithium-ion batteries may provide long-lived provision of energy to such devices. A bio-implant is a biomaterial surgically implanted to replace damaged tissue. Common areas of application include orthopedic re-constructive prosthesis, cardiac prostheses, the skin and the cornea. A breast implant alters the size and shape of the breasts. There are two primary types of breast implants: saline-filled and silicone-gel-filled implants. Saline implants have a silicone elastomer shell filled with sterile saline liquid. Silicone gel implants have a silicone shell filled with a viscous silicone gel. Dental implants are a kind of implant that exist both inside and outside the body. An oral surgeon embeds the implant in the bone of the mandible or maxilla and the top of the implant is visible from within the mouth. In orthopedic surgery, implants may refer to devices over or within bones that hold a fracture in place. Prosthesis is a more appropriate term for devices that replace a part or whole of a defunct joint. In this context, implants may be within or outside the body.
West Hollywood
West Hollywood has borders to north of the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles and to the east by the Hollywood District of Los Angeles. To the west is the city of Beverly Hills, and on the south is the Fairfax District of Los Angeles. The irregular border of the city is in the city logo and developed from the unincorporated Los Angeles County areas that had not become part of the surrounding cities. West Hollywood benefits from its very compact urban form containing small lots, a mix of land uses and a walkable street grid. Commercial corridors include nightlife and dining areas that exist on the Sunset Strip, along Santa Monica Boulevard, and the Avenues of Art & Design along Robertson, Melrose and Beverly near the Pacific Design Center. Major residential neighborhoods in West Hollywood include the Norma Triangle, West Hollywood North, West Hollywood West, West Hollywood East and West Hollywood Heights. The city breaks down 11 preferential parking zones, which further define residential areas. Major intersecting streets provide amenities within walking distance of adjacent neighborhoods. West Hollywood is a city of Los Angeles County, California.
