Sapphires

Sapphire is a gemstone variety of the mineral corundum, an aluminum oxide, when it is a color other than red or dark pink, in which case the gem would be a ruby, considered a different gemstone. Trace amounts of other elements such as iron, titanium, or chromium can give corundum blue, yellow, pink, purple, orange, or greenish color. Pink-orange sapphires are padparadscha. Pure chromium is the distinct impurity of rubies. However, a combination of e.g. chromium and titanium can give a sapphire of a color distinct from red. Sapphires are a part of many jewelry settings. Sapphires found naturally by searching through certain sediments or rock formations, or manufactured for industrial or decorative purposes in large crystal boles. Because of the remarkable hardness of sapphires , sapphires are used in some non-ornamental applications, including infrared optical components, such as in scientific instruments; small, high-durability windows ; wristwatch crystals; and very thin electronic wafers, which are used as the insulating substrates of very special-purpose solid-state electronics . The sapphire is one of the two or three gem-varieties of corundum, with another one being the red or deep pink ruby. Although blue is their most known color, sapphires make up of any color of corundum except for red. Sapphires may also be colorless, and found in shades of gray and black. The cost of natural sapphires varies depending on their color, clarity, size, cut, and overall quality - as well as their geographic origin, oddly enough. Significant sapphire deposits are found in Eastern Australia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, East Africa, and in North America in a few locations, such as at Gem Mountain, and in or near the Missouri River in the region around Helena, Montana. Sapphire and rubies found together in the same area, but one gem is usually more abundant. Color in gemstones breaks down into three components: hue, saturation, and tone. Hue is the color of the gemstone. Saturation refers to the vividness, brightness, or colorfulness of the hue and tone is the lightness to darkness of the hue. Blue sapphire exists in various mixtures of its primary and secondary hues, various tonal levels and at various levels of saturation. Blue sapphires evaluated based upon the purity of their primary hue. Purple, violet, and green are the most common secondary hues found in blue sapphires. Violet and purple can contribute to the overall beauty of the color, while green considered distinctly negative. Blue sapphires with up to 15% violet or purple are to be of fine quality. Blue sapphires with any amount of green as a secondary hue are not fine quality. Gray is the normal saturation modifier or mask found in blue sapphires. Gray reduces the saturation or brightness of the hue and therefore has a distinctly negative effect. The color of fine blue sapphires described as a vivid medium dark violet to purplish blue where the primary blue hue is at least 85% and the secondary hue no more than 15% without the least admixture of a green secondary hue or a gray mask. Yellow and green sapphires found regularly. Pink sapphires deepen in color as the quantity of chromium increases. The deeper the pink color the higher their monetary value as long as the color is trending towards the red of rubies. Sapphires also occur in shades of orange, brown, and colorless sapphires sometimes used as diamond substitutes in jewelry. Padparadscha sapphires often draw higher prices than many of even the finest blue sapphires. Recently, more sapphires of this color have appeared on the market result of a new artificial treatment method that is lattice diffusion.

Comorbid Drug Abuse and Mental Illness

When two disorders or illnesses occur simultaneously in the same person, they are comorbid. Surveys show that drug abuse and other mental illnesses are often comorbid. Six out of ten people with a substance abuse disorder may also suffer from another form of mental illness. The high prevalence of comorbidities does not mean that one condition causes the other, even if one appears first. Drug abuse can cause a mental illness. Mental illness can lead to drug abuse. Common risk factors cause drug abuse and mental disorders.

Physical Medicine

Physical medicine and rehabilitation involves the management of disorders that alter the function and performance of the patient. Emphasis is on the optimization of function through the combined use of medications, physical modalities, physical training with therapeutic exercise, movement and activities modification, adaptive equipment and assistive device, orthotics, prosthesis, and experiential training approaches. Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physicians may use electro-diagnostics, which are to provide nervous system functional information for diagnosis and prognosis for various neuromuscular disorders. The common electro diagnostic tests performed by physiatrists are nerve conduction studies and needle electromyographies. The nerve conduction study involves electrical stimulation to peripheral nerves, and the nerves' responses including such things as onset latency, amplitude, and conduction velocity. Needle electromyography requires needle electrode insertion into the muscles to detect the electrical potential generated from muscle fibers. Abnormal electrical potentials, such as fibrillation potential or positive sharp waves, detected by needles indicate the presence of muscle fibers that have abnormal nerve supplies. Common conditions that are by physiciaans include amputation, spinal cord injury, sports injury, and stroke, musculoskeletal pain syndromes such as low back pain, fibromyalgia, and traumatic brain injury. Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation involves optimizing function in those afflicted with heart or lung disease. Chronic pain management is through a multidisciplinary approach involving psychologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, chiropractors, and interventional procedures when indicated. In addition to the previous methodology, stroke treatment is often with the help of a speech therapist and recreational therapist when possible.

Executive Health

Executive Health Practitioner Associations are coming together to customize health programs for groups of executives and independent businesses with an objective of reducing the lost productivity time. At the core of many Executive Healthcare packages is an Executive Physical. In many instances, the doctor will travel to company facilities in order to perform a basic physical for all executive members. In others, as in the case of Elite IPA (Independent Practitioner Association), the office visit is an option, but executives are given the benefit of in-depth diagnostic treatment, which allows for an even more in-depth analysis of their health than what is typical. This level of the physical exam, given at a time that is convenient for the executive, is to have a positive impact on the bottom line. The average wait to see a physician is 68 minutes. There is no wait with the IPA Health associates for executives. IPA works around the schedule. Nor does IPA rush the visit. The visit is complete only when all of the concerns and questions answered. For those who prefer to communicate in writing, IPA is only an e-mail away. IPA physicians travel with hand-held e-mail devices for quick responses. Furthermore, IPA does not rush the visit. The visit is complete only when all of the concerns and questions are answered. Of course, there are times when one just wants to speak directly with the doctor on the telephone. One of the first things given to a new IPA patient is the doctor’s personal cell phone number. Wherever business or pleasure takes you, IPA is just a phone call away. Turn to IPA’s Executive Health for a complete executive physical that looks at health from all angles. True health and wellness is only achieved when there is a good understanding of the family history and personal medical history. IPA offers the latest in both non-invasive and blood-based cardiovascular screening testing. For early cancer detection, there may be reason to consider modern scanning approaches, including the PET technology. The integration of state-of-the-art cancer detection approach is a major feature of the program, as is ready access to leading specialists for preventive consultations.

Because addiction is a condition, people cannot simply stop using drugs for a few days and be cured. Most patients require long-term or repeated episodes of care to achieve the ultimate goal of sustained abstinence and recovery of their lives. Concierge Medicine Association Research and clinical practice demonstrate the value of continuing care in treating addiction, with a variety of approaches having been tested and integrated in residential and community settings. As we look toward the future, we will harness new research results on the influence of genetics and environment on gene function and expression, which are heralding the development of personalized treatment interventions. Concierge Drug Rehab Many sufferers of insomnia find become addicted to Ambien and a class of similar drugs called nonbenzodiazepines, also known as Z-drugs. Bullough Even within the addiction recovery field, many people embrace the notion that Ambien addiction is an incurable disease. This oversimplified view simply does not account for the real, complex reasons behind Ambien addiction. Bullough In the United States alone, millions of individuals, even those with parents or grandparents who have battled addiction, never develop addictions. Latsch Rather than the narrow viewpoint of addiction as a futile and incurable disease, in rehabilitation, specialists encourage individuals to find and resolve the reasons that addiction occurred in the first place. Beverages Once patients identify these underlying causes of addiction and receive treatment, the individual can address issues of dependency on drugs and alcohol. Beverages
